Q: What is a registered agent and what do they do?
A: All Corporations, LLC’s, and registered Limited Partnerships doing business in District of Columbia must have a Registered Agent (sometimes referred to as a "Registered Agent", "Resident Agent", or "Statutory Agent") with a District of Columbia address. The Registered Agent may be an individual or any other organization qualified to do business in District of Columbia. The Registered Agent receives license renewals and other notices and forwards them to the organization. The agent also accepts legal papers served on the corporation.The Registered Agent must provide a physical address at which the agent is available for service of legal process. The agent may not be a PO Box.
